A few years ago my doctor advised me to take up walking which I did with much enjoyment but as the year progressed I found that cycling once more became more prominent in my exercise regime and soon the walking boots were left to collect dust.
More recently that has changed as I have been getting out on the moors with my partner both on our bikes and hiking which has been really wonderful. Sadly recently the weather has been absolutely shocking with many places in the UK being very badly flooded and as a result I have found myself preferring to get out hiking than using the bike, on the upside I have been much better at keeping under my daily calorie limit, I have made several changes to my eating habits that have helped keep my weight at a semi reasonable level.
On the upside Sam and I have booked our holiday, we have booked a 15 night cruise in Norway next March to head up and see the Aurora Borealis, I am really looking forward to the trip and seeing the amazing landscape once more, we are already looking at things to see and do at each port and putting together a folder/plan of action, to say we are both excited is an understatement.
June also saw my 40th birthday, I was planning a massive deep soul searching blog entry, but that is not like me, 40 is just a number, I feel no different, to be honest I actually feel better more relaxed about things. I am finally starting to find that balance that I have been looking for this past 12 months, the only thing I really want to do is reassess and set out some goals that I want to achieve, this time I know I have the strength and the support to see them through.
Just recently we have both been pushing out further and further on our walks and starting to strike into the 4-6 mile distances. Both walks we have done recently have gone pretty well and I have found my feet are starting to get better conditioned to walking these distances, a far cry from how things were when I first started walking.

Quite a few photo's, as you can tell I am enjoying my new camera and the opportunities to get out and use it, hope fully there will be a few more next week weather permitting. Speaking of next week, this coming Saturday will see me traveling off for the day to go and take my Skyride ride leaders course. i have wanted to do this for a while and will really be great for me to complete for both my confidence and for helping cycling in my own community.
Well that is all for now, fingers crossed there will be another entry after next weekend.
Simon
