I woke this morning to find the world outside shrouded under a veil of mist I love this time of year, misty mornings, leaf lined trails and all the warm rich colors, there is no such thing as a bad ride!
Although by lunch time the mist burned off the sun was soon replaced with grey skies, no rain is forecast but you never know, anyways I decided to throw my D300 into my bag and hit the trails for a short ride to break my legs back into riding.
The road section up to the trail was pretty simple, there is an avenue of tree's I enjoy riding through that gave me my first taste of leaves and my first near miss with a squirrel of the day.
Once I headed further onto the trail the colors really started to show themselves and the light breeze made it gently rain leaves and I rode along, brakes hard on, another damn squirrel. I carried on at a gentle pace, I nearly turned off road and headed up into Cann woods but my shoulder is still far from right and I don't want to over stretch it with the race so close.
I was pleasantly surprised how many people there were out today it is nice to see, sadly the number dwindle until new year and you start to see the road riders doing hill circuits on the dual carriage way near home and the "resolution" runners and clubs going up and down along main road, oh yeah and another damn squirrel, these guys are testing my brakes today good for my reactions I suppose.
I stopped on one of the viaducts to look out over the surrounding woodland, autumn still has not taken much of a hold, the next week or two will see things really change here I just hope the wind does not pick up too strong and blow the color from the trees as it often does around here. When I stopped I noticed this little yellow flower clicking to a crack between the granite slabs that make the viaduct, no matter how small or tough the location life finds a way.
Carrying on up the trail I could start to see the moors, I found the mist again, although not near me you could see it clouding over the open moors up ahead, I was not worried as I would be turning around soon, F'kit! another damn squirrel trying to become an ornament on my bike, seriously disc rotors make a real mess of them, I have seen the pics.
Finally I reached the top end of today's ride and turned around for the nice spin back down and towards home, I glanced behind as i rode through the thicker leaves to see them swirling behind me.
Although the sun was missing from today's ride the season more than made up for it, when there was no one else on the trail it was great, just me and the crunch of my tires through the leaves oh an another 2 near misses with those crazy squirrels on the way back, kinda happy my big 2.4 motoraptors did not collect and critters today.
I hope you like the new format of the blog, I want to write a few more like this and take my D300 and 28mm out on the bike with me, I am trying to find a little case so I can stash it in my rucksack of maybe attach it to the chest loops or maybe just take my old D100 out, either is a good solution.
Well the week end will see me racing over at Dusk Til Dawn up at Thetford, I am really looking forward to it and the forecast is favorable as well, so if you are there and see riders with the number 333 cheer us on as it could be me or one of my team mates.
